BARN DAYS PROGRAM
Barn Days
Barn Days !!
Horse Heaven Stable is proud to announce a back to basics program we are calling "Barn Days". This program is designed to help our students strive for a better understanding of not only how to ride a horse but all of the hard work, dedication and responsibility it takes to own a horse. The students are learning in a variety of subjects which include - grooming, proper leading, horse health, feeding maintenance, appropriate attire/headgear...the list goes on! They receive a notebook with worksheets and fun games to play.
For the summer our intermediate students are welcome to be Jr. Barn Helpers and spend the day at the barn performing chores, horse care, and training right beside Gayle. Without their help we would not have seen such success in placing the rescued horses.
During fall and winter our students are meeting twice a month on Saturdays. This program is open to anyone, age 8 and above, who wishes to attend. Cost is $10.00 per student, per class.
With the addition of our newest assistant, Ginger Rothhaar, we hope to add lots of new ideas and open up more time for learning & riding. Ginger has graduated from St. Vincent College with her degree in Biology. She is moving forward to her Masters Degree and while she is working on this she has been instrumental in getting things moving here at the stable.
She has taken on Barn Days in full force and some of the topics we have covered this fall are: Show clothing, formal & informal, braiding for shows, and on Oct. 24 she arranged for a guest speaker Rick Reed. Rick is a certified horse chiropractor and spent a lot of time with the kids, at their level, going over everything from parts of the horse to skeleton and muscles.
She will be offering driving lessons with her pony James Bond. He is a small pony that has been driving for quite a while, making him perfect to learn on. Ginger has been very active in 4-H and Bond qualified for District Show this year. I was suprised to find out 4-H offers driving divisions. The next barn day will probably be an introduction to driving. Ask Ginger about getting involved in 4-H, they're not just about western games.
